Organic, Biodynamic and Regenerative Wineries

Locating all thoughtfully farmed wineries throughout the US.

Thoughtful Vines is a resource where you can find all the wineries that farm with a respect to soil health and the future of our Earth.

It is also a educational resource to learn more about the basics of each of the three main thoughtful farming practices.

The map will provide the location of the winery and the farming practices they follow.

Getting certified can be expensive and hard-work so Thoughtful Vines includes wineries that farm responsibly even if they are not certified.

Organic

Organic viticulture is the first step in the direction of healthier soil and a more sustainable ecosystem, taking conventional farming practices and going a step further by utilizing certified organic ingredients. In addition to using organic additives in farming, organic means a changed mindset on farming and soil health. This is the beginning of looking at your vineyard through a different, non-conventional lens.

Biodynamic

Biodynamic viticulture is the step above organic farming. Based on Rudolph Steiner's philosophies from the 1920’s, Biodynamic farming replaces organic herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides with practices that work to further eliminate chemicals leading to an even healthier soil. There is a significant spiritual aspect to this kind of farming, based on Steiner’s ideas of “spiritual science.”

Regenerative

Regenerative viticulture’s goal is to create a “living organism” from the farmed land. This means that the farmer creates a fully self-sustaining and closed ecosystem that thrives on its own resources.

“To be a successful farmer, one must know the nature of soil.”

— Xenophon, ancient Greek philosopher
